9/14/21 Ministry Update

Hi Family and Friends,

This season of ministry at my church feels particularly hard and complicated: we don’t have a Senior Pastor, and the Leadership Team (i.e. the church board) is down to two people. In the midst of this, I’ve been thinking about this verse: “All things have been created through him and for him… And he is the head of the body, the church…” (Colossians 1). Sometimes I forget that Jesus is the head of my church. During this time, we are not without a leader. I invite you to pray for my church – that He leads us, that He gives us direction, and that He ministers to us.

In all this, there have been opportunities for me to grow in leadership and exercise authority: interviewing applicants for the Interim Senior Pastor position, strategizing about my church’s benevolence giving, and having hard conversations. I would appreciate prayer for courage, discernment, and wisdom.

On the Servant Partners side of things, I concluded an inner healing prayer group with the Saskatoon interns. We met 8x over the past four months, and it was a privilege to facilitate their engagement with God.

On a personal note, one of my housemates moved out, and we got a new housemate. The move inspired us to Marie Kondo our kitchen, and we got rid of a TON of stuff. We were able to give lots of things away on our local Buy Nothing Facebook group. If you’re not familiar with Buy Nothing, you’re missing out! Each neighborhood has their own group, and it’s a place where people post things that they’re giving away for free. Some things are junk, but most of it is really quality stuff. A few things I’ve received are: pomelos, Banagrams, and a lime juicer! I’ve been so inspired by the generosity of my neighbors. Buy Nothing has also been a great way to meet my neighbors. Through our exchanges, I’ve met at least a dozen people.

Took the train to Oceanside – so much better than sitting in traffic!

I coordinated a private screening to see Shang-Chi with church folks! Had to show my support for the first Asian Marvel movie. ❤ Surprisingly, it was actually kinda cheap – $200 for up to 30 people, which means each ticket is around $7.
